The 89th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles and it was a star studded affair. Mahershala Ali won the best actor award and the La La Land fiasco that almost every movie buff is talking about, this year’s Oscar saw some major fashion statements. Subtle political statements were made as well. The Oscars were a fusion of glamour and glory. Here are the best dressed celebrities who took our breath away:
#1 Mahershala Ali
Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Mahershala Ali definitely deserves to be the first one to enter the best dressed list. He wore a tone-on-tone Ermenegildo Zegna Couture tuxedo, shirt, bow tie and pocket square which made him look spruce. His accessories were by Monique Pean Homme shirt studs which completed his look.
#2 Meryl Streep
Even after a row between her team and Chanel’s designer Karl Lagerfeld, Meryl Streep arrived at the evening wearing a creation by Elie Saab. The embellished dress was navy blue in colour along with which she wore navy blue pants and heels.
#3 Viola Davis
In a custom Red Armani Prive vermillion silk gown,Winner of the best supporting Actress Award, Viola Davis looked ravishing and fierce. The neckline was high and the pleated detailing on the bodice increased the glamour quotient.
#4 Ryan Gosling
There are very few men who would embrace ruffles and Ryan Gosling is one of them. Boy, he looked dapper. Dressed in a Gucci, Ryan Gosling raised the bar when it comes to coolness.

Salma Hayek wore a semi sheer black lace gown by Alexander McQueen which had subtle sequins. The neckline was deep and her makeup was minimal.

And then walked in Belle from “Beauty and the Beast”. Or maybe Leslie Mann is just her doppelganger. In a yellow dress by Zac Posen and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, she looked as pretty as a Disney Princess.
