1. Chrysasnthemum
They are a bunch of bright flowers, available in a variety of colours and shapes and could beautify your indoor space. They are known to filter out a bunch of toxins like ammonia and benzene, often found in plastics, detergents and glue. They should be preferably placed in a bright, sunny area and watered regularly.
2. Spider Plant
The spider plant is a hanging plant, bearing small white flowers that eventually transform into beautiful plantlets. It effectively filters out toxins like formaldehyde and xylene, which is used as a solvent in printing and rubber industries. The plants grow best in bright, indirect sunlight and should be provided with a water soluble houseplant fertilizer during periods of active growth.
3. Peace Lily
These plants bear gorgeous white blooms and improve air quality by filtering out a host of toxins like formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide. It also protects the air from cigarette smoke, paint and furniture fumes. These plants can be placed in shaded or dark environments and in addition to filtering the pollutants, they also give out a lot of moisture to the air and keeps it hydrated.

According to the Chinese system of ‘Feng-shui’, money plant is known to boost wealth and prosperity. Although that belief can be questioned, you can be certain of the fact that these plants are effective air cleansing agents, purifying the air from volatile organic compounds(VOC’s) released from synthetic paints/carpets. The plants thrive best in warmer temperatures and require frequent watering. 5. Aloe Vera
This succulent plant would be a lovely addition to your home. It filters the air of formaldehyde and benzene, found in varnishes, floor finishes and detergents. It is easy to grow and requires very low maintenance. The plant thrives well in sunny conditions and should be watered deeply, but sparingly. However, there are a few pests which tend to stick to the plant, so do use a natural, non toxic pesticide for it.
6. Snake Plant / Mother-in-Law’s Tongue
It is one of the top air purifying plants identified by NASA and is known to remove as many as 107 air pollutants, including benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene and xylene. It also release oxygen at night, thus enhancing your sleep. To add to its advantages, these plants are extremely resilient and can survive in unfavourable conditions.
7. Areca Palm / Bamboo Palm
These plants are one of the best at removing formaldehyde, found in carpets. They are useful in producing oxygen during the day and also add to the moisture content of the air.
