THSC SkillGrid : A Digital Step forward Ensuring Job Opportunities
The era we live in right now is digital and therefore, almost everything today is digitized and is available at our fingertips, online. We are just one click away from what we need. Realizing the importance of the digital media, the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) has decided to launch a Digital SkillGrid to connect the people of hotel and tourism industry, training partners and trained manpower. It is truly an innovative and strong step taken forward in the direction of encouraging and developing the tourism industry and also to ensure that suitable jobs are provided for the eligible candidates.
What is THSC?
The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council or THSC is a sector skill council for Tourism and Hospitality industry under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It is promoted by the confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with inclusive representation of the Government, Industry, Industry associations and training institutes across India. It is financially aided by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The main role of THSC is to make sure that they equip the large man power with enough skill and knowledge to meet all the necessary criteria required by the Industry. It also plays an important role in making the manpower meet the industry, thus bridging the gaps. THSC also caters to other sub sectors of the industry as well such as Hotels, Tour Operators, Food Service Restaurants, Facilities Management and Cruise Liners.
The digital Platform created by the THSC for the well-being of the Industry is called the thsc.skillgrid.in . The platform was launched on Wednesday, 25th January 2017 by the chairman of THSC Mr. Arun Nanda. It was presented in front of many imminent Industry partners and Training partners. The thsc.skillgrid.in already has around and over 5000 candidates who have either completed or still undergoing training. They have acquired the skills across Job-roles and states, and are available for the Tourism and Hospitality Industry to Engage.
But what is Skill Grid?
Many haven’t been able to decipher the meaning of this term. SkillGrid is a suite of manpower development application, management tools, and analytical components. It is used by both the employers and the employees and analyses the requirements of the employees in the present as well the future, and also maintains a record of the achievements, accomplishments and certification of the trainees. With the help of this, the employees are able to track the performance of the employees and therefore review them accordingly.
Regarding the Digital Platform, out of the many dignitaries present, Mr. Praveen Roy, CEO of Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council stated, “The digital platform version-1 has been developed after several focus group meetings with training partners and key industry members. Feedback from all was carefully collected and evaluated. The challenge was to develop a generic platform and not end up customising it to individual training partners or industry associates. The ultimate benefactors had to be the candidates, who get a job in or near their hometowns.” We can sure expect better things for all the employees as well as the employers in this sector, thanks to such an incredible step forward.
