Step up your Selfie Game with the new Vivo V5s
Back in November 2016, when Vivo launched the V5, there was a lot of hype around it. The highlight feature of the device was the 20MP Front Camera, which, along with Moonlight Flash, had the capability of generating perfectly detailed selfies in any kind of environment. Now, in April 2017, Vivo has launched the V5s, a revamped version of the popular V5, with further software improvements which take the quality of the Smartphone up a notch.
Same Design With Matte Black Variant
From the design, at the front, there is no visible change in the Vivo V5s compared to the V5 at the front, the design consists of the same Metal unibody construction, but at the back is where things change, the antenna lines now flow along the top & bottom curves of the phone, which make the design look better. It seems like Vivo has sensed the market trend of the matte black color, and as a result, the V5s is also available in a beautiful matte black variant.
The 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass 3 display of the V5s sports a 5.5 inch screen with a 720p IPS HD resolution, at a pixel density of 267ppi. At the right side there is the power button & the Volume rocker, the left and top sides are kept clean, and on the bottom side, there is a slot for a 3.5mm Headphone jack, along with the micro-usb charger port and the speaker grille.
Note that the micro-usb charger is a regular one, and does not support fast charging.
The technical specifications of the V5s include the 64-Bit Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750 SoC clocked at 1.5 Ghz, along with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Powering the smartphone is a 3000Mah non- removable battery. Along with that it has support for Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and OTG support. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Vivo’s FunTouch UI 3.0 on top.
Features like App Cloner , Smart Split 2.0
The V5s has done a lot of behind-the-scenes improvements and added some more features including the ones already present in its predecessor. The feature additions include the use of an in built App Cloner, which can help the user to run one particular app with two different accounts. For eg: running two Whatsapp accounts on the same Phone. Currently this feature is supported for only a few apps, which include Whatsapp, Facebook, Viber, BBM, etc. Some other features carried down from the V5 include the lightning fast fingerprint- scanner, which Vivo claims, can unlock the smartphone in 0.32 seconds.
Then there is Smart Split 2.0, that lets you use split screen multitasking, a feature that was only recently introduced in Android 7.0 Nougat. Another feature is the Eye-Protection Mode, which is basically a Night mode feature, which lowers the color brightness, so as to make the display less eye-straining for usage at night, so it would be much more easier for you to read through e-books on those long nights when you don’t want to sleep.
Camera & Music
Along with these features, the V5s also comes preloaded with an improved version of the face beauty app, for editing the perfect selfies. Vivo has highlighted the qualities of its Selfie Cameras so much that sometimes one tends to forget that Vivo is also specialized in making Smartphones embedded with Hi-Fi audio chips. The V5s carries one as well, the AK4376 Hi-Fi Chip which can deliver great audio quality.
Now coming to the main highlight, the most hyped and renowned aspect of all Vivo smartphones, the Selfie Camera. Interestingly enough, Vivo actually has not implemented any major hardware changes to the Front Camera. It is the same as the Vivo V5, a 20MP camera, with IMX376 image sensor with 5p lens system and f/2.0 aperture. What vivo has done here is making some changes in the software for improving the camera quality. The changes include the Group Selfie feature for the front camera, which uses the panoramic landscape-panning effects up close, so as to fit in a wider area, and consequently, more number of people for a Selfie.
This time around, there are some notable upgrades to the Rear Camera as well. While the hardware is the same 13MP camera sensor as of the V5, it has an additional software feature which shoots multiple frames of the same image in quick succession, and processes them to form a 52MP Image! Note that a larger megapixel count won’t make picture quality any better, it only enhances the ability to zoom into an image with minimal degradation of the level of detail and quality of the image. Vivo also claims to have improved their Moonlight glow feature of the Front Camera.
The other improvements and changes include the addition of 64GB internal storage, with support of additional 256GB with a micro-sd card, compared to the 32GB in the V5(expandable upto 128GB). The V5s ensures that with great selfies, you also get great storage.
The V5s is a decent improvement from the V5 launched about 5 months ago. With a price tag of Rs. 18990, it is available for pre- order on flipkart and on offline retail stores. The phone is scheduled to be released on 6th May, 2017. Well to be honest it doesn’t have all the requirements one would expect from a smartphone of this price, at the same time it isn’t a smartphone meant just for utility. It is meant for those who enjoy their selfies, and for those whom no happy moments are complete without a great picture, which can capture loads of beautiful memories inside it. So if Selfies are your Priority, and you don’t mind spending some money, then the Vivo V5s would be a worthy purchase.
