Save Your Skin from the Scorching Sun
During the summers, one essential thing you need in your backpack and your grooming kit is a great sunscreen! Using a sunscreen during the summers is recommended by all the dermatologists, but choosing the right one for your skin with the wide range of sun protection factors (SPF) available in the market is surely a challenge. If you’ve continuously tried and failed to find the one which suits you the best, then just take care of these few things:
Know your skin
Just like you’d pick other beauty/ skincare products according to your skin type, similarly, it is really important to choose an SPF based on your skin texture and quality. The one that suits your skin will keep it protected from the sun and won’t lead to breakouts, which usually occurs when you apply an SPF that does not suit your skin type.

Oily skin tends to get dark, and prone to breakout during the hot weather. You need to choose a sunblock that is gel or water based as your skin tends to become oilier in summer. Any heavy cream based product is not for you.
A lotion based SPF is best suited for normal skin. Since this type of skin is not too oily nor too dry, the lotion based sunscreen provides just the right amount of hydration. You are actually super lucky and all you need is a good branded sunscreen that will take care of your skin.
Those with dry skin should use a moisturizing SPF which is thick so that the protection lasts. Any thing liquid or gel type won’t stay for long and your dry skin will soak it up quickly. You need a thick coat of sunscreen.
Sunscreens are available in the market in the form of wipes, powders in addition to gel, water and matte based sunscreens. Many cosmetics like foundations, compact powders, bronzers and lip balms also contain SPF. Besides knowing in which form you are applying your sunscreen, it is imperative that you also take care of the application. Always apply a sunscreen 15-20 minutes before stepping out in the sun. This allows the sunscreen to soak into your body. Always apply the sunscreen every two hours if you are going to stay outdoors. Higher SPF does not necessarily mean better protection.
If you choose an SPF with a higher denomination, it will make your skin extremely oily. Thus an SPF of 15 to 30++ is considered the best for the Indian summers. Depending on the number of hours you are going to stay in the sun, you may choose an SPF with higher denomination. While a lot of people ignore the importance of a good sunscreen, you should remember that it is something that needs to be with you at all times in the hot weather.
