Nearby Places To Explore
Kathmandu has been the centre of Nepal’s rich culture and history over the years. It is a place surrounded by ancient structures highlighting the religions of Buddhism & Hinduism. The streets of Kathmandu are vibrant and noisy, which give a feeling of being alive and present in the lively atmosphere that permeates throughout the City. From visiting temples to exploring markets , pubs and casinos , this city has something for everyone.
Here are few places to explore within 15 minutes of hotel :
#1 PashupatiNath Temple
It is one of the most sacred Hindu Temples of Nepal. A located on the banks of the Bagmati River, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main temple is actually only allowed to be visited by the followers of Hinduism. But the other tourists have access to some other buildings located at the eastern banks of The Bagmati river, from where the the main Pashupatinath Temple can be seen in its full Glory.
#2 Thamel Market
It is a busy market area that can be sometimes overcrowded, but still, it is a must-visit place, especially if its your last day of the trip and you want to leave back with some stuff. The shops here offer very unique items, exotic clothing, trekking gears , unusual sculptures and some other souvenirs you’d like to keep.
I bought a very cool raincoat jacket from Thamel at just INR 350 , thanks to my fellow traveller Ami Bhat aka Indiana Jones from thrillingtravel to help me choose the right one.
#3 Casino Royale
Located inside the Yak & Yeti hotel , Casino Royale is one of the best casino in Kathmandu to try your luck on roulette, slot machine, black jack or poker. From food to cocktails everything is complimentary for players. They also have a separate zone for live dance performances on bollywood music. Free Transportation service is also available.
#4 Boudhanath Stupa
The Boudhanath Stupa is the largest Stupa in Nepal and is considered the most sacred Tibetan Buddhist Temple outside of Tibet. It is enormous in size, and dominates the Skyline of Kathmandu. Though we missed visiting this place due to short of time , still it’s a must visit and very close to OYO rooms 001 Kathmandu.
#5 Utsav Authentic Nepali Restaurant
Live Nepalese cultural dance performances from a variety of ethnic groups with authentic Nepali food , what else you want in Kathmandu ? Meal starts with a shot of rice wine followed by delicious momos and traditional Nepalese Thali.
There are several other beautiful places to explore near the property like Patan Durbar Square , Bhaktapur Durbar Square , Swayambhunath Stupa which we will discuss in future posts.
We had a pleasant stay at the hotel. The staff at the hotel are polite, dedicated to their work and very helpful. I remember the front desk guy helped us even at middle of the night to arrange a cab. Being at a location with close proximity to bus stops and other means of transport, travelling anywhere probably is not a hassle from this hotel. So if you ever visit Kathmandu, OYO Rooms 001 could be a great base for your trip, with its great services at an affordable cost.
