1. Aguada Fort in Goa
This fort in Goa is commonly visited by anyone and everyone who happens to stay at the beautiful Taj property in the vicinity of the area and is one of the very famous forts in Goa. The lighthouse inside it was built in the 19th century and it was used a prison by the Portuguese. The name ‘Aguada’ means water as the fort is surrounded by water on every side.

2. Chapora Fort
Another super famous fort in Goa and the one which has been spotted in many movies as well. Ail Shah of Bijapur started the construction of this site but it was later done by the Portuguese who inhabited the place. The fort had tunnels built under the ground which served as a hiding place in case of any attacks. Situated near the Vagator beach, tourists climb up to witness the spectacular view from chapora fort.

3. Cabo Fort
The Cabo fort in South Goa has an interesting mythological tale attached to its existence. Legends have it that Lord Rama stayed here with Sita and brother Lakshman during their exile. Eventually a fort was built on the area by the Portuguese and it has a chapel which is in function even today.

4. Mormugao Fort
This fort was built to protect the Mormugao harbour and had everything in the vicinity, from residences to jails and even a church. It faces the Zuari river and even served as a residence for the Viceroy.

5. Corjuem Fort
This was built in the village of Aldona and served as a military fortress for the Portuguese. Also known as the ‘Khorjuem fort’, the view around this place is breathtaking.

6. Reis Magos Fort
Reis Magos Fort is situated on the Mandovi river and was built in around the 15th century in the village Reis Magos. A spring of fresh water flows towards the east of this fort and there is a beautiful church as well. This Fort was also meant to be served for military purposes.
